Sevilla part 2

Sevilla continued...

Saturday morning we were greeted by a FANTASTIC breakfast at the hotel.  Spaniards usually only eat crackers with café con leche, so we were delighted to have bacon, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, croissants, toast, coffee, juice, etc. Yum. :)

After filling our bellies, we went to El Museo de Bellas Artes, which had a wide range of artworks.  There was a lot paintings of the Virgin Mary dressed in white and blue, and the occasional statue of beheaded John the Baptist.  Lots of religious motifs.

The second floor of the museum, however, had a cool collection of more modern art, and I absolutely loved it!

Here are some of the paintings I liked the most:

Having walked through the museum (which actually is a converted convent), we were free for the rest of the day to explore Sevilla.

So we walked by the river again, made our way to Plaza de España, which far exceeded my expectations!

Pictures really does not do this place justice.  And might I mention that the weather was perfect??

We then plopped down at a nearby restaurant, tired and hungry.  But the food made up for our weariness.  Someone advised us that we needed to try eggplants with a cold, tomato soup that Sevilla is famous for. Sounds gross, right? Wrong.

I got fried eggplants, drizzled with honey, topped with pieces of ham (seriously, what is up with Spaniards and their ham??), one of my friends got the eggplant and the cold soup, my other friend got paella, and we all shared a potato dish.

SUCH a successful meal.

At 5PM, we as a group headed back to the train station, and by this point we all were exhausted, and all I wanted to do was sit on the train and sleep.  We get onto the RENFE, zoom back to Madrid, and a couple of friends and I got KOREAN FOOD (yum yum--had to have my fix) for dinner, and headed back to our respective homes for a much needed sleep. :]

P.S. Post on Bilbao/San Sebastian coming soon! :)
